Author: Captain Frederick Marryat
Captain Frederick Marryat, 1792 - 1848, English Novelist. Born in London, the son of a Member of Parliament, he joined the navy at 14 and was a Commander by the age of 23. After an adventurous career, during which he won the Royal Humane Society's Gold Medal for bravery, he resigned in 1830 to concentrate on writing and became a famous children's writer. He is particular known his book The Children of the New Forest.
