Lyman Frank Baum, (1856 -1919) American children's writer. Born in New York, the son of a wealthy businessman and educated at a military academy. Baum worked as a journalist and playwright before setting off across America doing a variety of jobs including selling crockery. He have wrought 15 OZ books. After his death 26 more adventures of OZ appeared written by diverse authors including Baum's own son.
