Background of the Novel - The story is fictional, inspired by the case of a young private banker who worked for an American Express Bank in Miami. He is currently in jail, a convicted money launderer. His Mexican client, an auto dealer with a legitimate business, opened a $10 million investment account in his own name, with drug proceeds. Carlos Abrega, the notorious Mexican drug lord now jailed in Texas, gave him the drug money. Abrega, since he cannot invest in his own name, manipulated a legitimate businessman with accounts in the US to serve as a front to launder his drug profits. The US authorities have cracked down on private banks and investment companies to stop this practice, holding bankers and investment managers personally liable.
