Author: Louisa May Alcott
Louisa May Alcott, 1832 - 1888 American novelist. Daughter of Bronson Alcott and author of "Little Women", she was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, and grow up in Boston and Concord, Massachusetts. She completed her first book, "Flower Fables", when she was 16, though it was not published until 1855. During the Civil War she worked as an army nurse in a Union hospital (1861-63), an experience she documented in "Hospital Sketches (1863). From 1867 she edited a children's magazine, "Marry's Museum".
