The "GIGABULK Promotion
Group" aims to exchange views and thoughts to help promote
the GIGABULK contents and products into the marketplace and
share it's promotional activity among members to encourage
the broad acceptance of GIGABULK on a world wide basis among
members of the group, related industries and the public.
Gigabulk products contain vast overwhelming
quantity of multimedia content in a single product.
The term has been created from two existing
terms, 'giga' and bulk':
A Bulk Sale is defined as a sale of goods by a business that
represents all or substantially all of its inventory to a
single buyer.
The term Giga- has come into common usage following its use
by computer experts and in similar fields to indicate a very
large number 10 to the power 9 [1,000,000,000] i.e. a gigantic
quantity.
For instance, if a music company puts its entire music archive
into one single compilation of many gigabytes, then such a
compilation would be eligible to be called a gigabulk product
Gigabulking-type products are already spreading into various
digital entertainment:
- single DVDs containing tens of thousands of mobile ring
tones
- 10 DVD sets containing five years of audio listening
- 5 bluray DVDs of complete Bollywood movies
- 2 DVDs with 20,000 ebook texts
- 3.5 inch hard-drive holding complete archive of classical
operas
Undoubtedly new forms of Gigabulk products are going to arise
in the future
- video players for sale with pre-loaded with colossal collections
of vintage Hollywood movies
- contents of the British Library included as part of a deal
on mobile phones
Gigabulk products will potentially surpass:
- downloading
- podcasting
- streaming
- pay per view
- P2P
- and all other forms of delivery of individual small scale
entertainment
